Rainey Shuler Photography-The Magic of Nature

WELCOME TO RAINEY'S MAGIC OF NATURE!

Rainey Shuler was born in California in 1951, growing up in the Sierra Nevada Foothills...From the age of 5 she began exploring the countryside near her home...Her explorations were adventurous wanderings among manzanita, pine and oak trees, rivers, creeks..digging in the dirt, turning over rocks...Her mother refused to look in her pockets at the end of the day because they were filled with the "pets" she had discovered; lizards, caterpillars, worms, frogs, salamanders and even grasshoppers.

At the age of 12 Rainey developed a love for birds...She still has her first pair of binoculars given to her in 1963. And her first bird book, "Birds of America", copyright 1936 by Doubleday & Company. She kept her bird watching a secret from even her closest friends...it wasn't considered the "in" thing to do back in those days!

She begain photographing in earnest in June of 2005 and found a deep love for photographing birds in October 2006.

Rainey won a blue ribbon at the 2006 Santa Cruz County Fair for her Mimosa

Twirl photograh and in 2007 won a blue ribbon for her Egret Elegance image, a second place ribbon for Great Heron Art and a third place for her Kildeer Wings photograh.

She is also published in the book, 14:42 GMT, by Sancar Sahin, which features several photographers belonging to the popular Flickr site. These photographers from all over the world took a photograph at exactly the same time, same day.

She was one of approximately 300 participating artists in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Cultural Art Council Art Tour and was a featured artist in the Santa Cruz Good Times newspaper on October 11-17, 2007. She was also selected as one of the featured artists at Filoli's Native California show.

One of her Phalarope images was included in a Science Magazine article which has been included in the news section of the National Geographic website.

Rainey has a catalog of images featured on Flickr at www.flickr.com/photos/raineys and her photographs are chosen regulary as part of the Flickr Explore top 500 images for the day.
